Around this time last year, I reviewed the 7Artisans AF 27mm F2.8, an affordable autofocus lens for several APS-C mounts (specifically tested on a Sony). This year, they are introducing a different APS-C lens – the more ambitious 7Artisans AF 35mm F1.4. An F1.4 lens is two stops brighter than an F2.8 lens, making it significantly more complex to design. Initially, they are offering it exclusively for Fuji X-mount cameras. 7Artisans has succeeded in keeping it compact and reasonably priced at $169 USD. Should you consider the new 7Artisans AF 35mm for your Fuji camera? Check out my video review, the linked text review, or simply enjoy the accompanying photos in the galleries below.

One of the first things that struck me about the new AF 35mm F1.4 is its compact design. This lens is nearly the same size as a pancake lens, measuring only 49mm in length and weighing just 184g, making it incredibly lightweight for an F1.4 lens.
The 35mm perspective on an APS-C camera is different from that on a full frame. While 35mm is considered moderately wide on a full frame, the 1.5x crop factor of Fuji’s X-mount means that this lens acts more like a 52.5mm lens on a full frame, which closely resembles the “normal” perspective similar to what the human eye perceives.
While there are some peculiarities with this lens, in ideal conditions, the 7Artisans AF 35mm F1.4 can produce stunning photos with beautifully soft and creamy bokeh, as well as solid sharpness and contrast, even at F1.4:
