Better than the earlier versions
I had a much older version of the Zoom that I left in my car & the batteries blew up & ruined it. BUT! … I had it for like 20 years & made a few really good bootlegs of concerts & it was fantastic. So I got this one to take its place & it works & sounds just as good, if not better, than the original. This version is much easier to use, as well. You don’t have to select the front, back, or both. The mics are both on the top & sounds great all the way around.

A Decent Field Recorder with a Few Flaws
I wanted something I could keep in my practice room that I could just hit record on and quickly grab an outside perspective of my playing. This is great for that, with some minor issues. The built-in speaker isn’t the best, and distorts if pushed past the volume at the halfway point. This is especially true with instruments that have a really full sound like a grand piano. The recording sounds pristine if listened to on headphones or external speakers, so it is definitely only an issue with the built-in speaker and not a general sound quality issue. The built-in speaker is pretty loud though, so it is still very audible even when not turned up all the way.My other main issue is with the text-to-speech accessibility features. It is spectacular that a major pro audio manufacturer is keeping blind users in mind, and having the TTs implementations that this unit features has been a game changer. However, it does not read everything, and still is missing some critical features such as the ability to read out file names in the file list screen.Still, I would buy this unit again if I had to, despite these issues.

Best Audio Recorder for Live Events/ Quick Setup
First off. 32 bit float… awesome. Zoom did a really good job on this product.I am a wedding videographer who uses the Zoom H1essential recorder mostly for recording directly from a band or DJ.Most of the time, the Zoom H1essential recorder I own has an attenuator cable (-35db for those wondering) with either rca, xlr and 1/4″ adapters and have never had anything go wrong. You can certainly use a regular lavalier mics (I recommend Rode lavaliers for good quality sound). This device does NOT have phantom power, which I love for on-the-go filmmaking.16Gb cards gives me plenty of recording time, the battery life lasts all day long, and the headphone jack is useful for not only monitoring, but for outputting to a wireless device for in camera recording for synchronization in post production! (whew thats a mouthful)I definitely plan on buying more, Especially from Zoom!

The need to constantly set the date and time is annoying…
The device itself records audio well, other reviewers have already gone over all the technical aspects about it that work well. What I don’t like is how anytime you change the batteries you have to set the date and time all over again. I wish they would have maybe an extra slot for like a CR2032 that is there just to keep the date and time settings between battery changes. I feel like for a $100 device that isn’t too much to ask for.

Though this was the first mic I purchased, I watched a lot of reviews online before buying it. But it performs really well. you do have to get a dead cat, if you want good motorcycling audio, but you’re done. Just choose between stereo or mono and you’re good to go. It’s not studio level, obviously, but it performs much better than what I expected considering the price I paid. 10/10 woudl recommend this as a first mic.

I purchased the Zoom H1e to record my electric guitar practice sessions. Iâm using the binaural earbuds connected into the Zoom H1e to record under my Boss WAZA AIR headphones. No need to adjust recording levels. No more clipped audio. Itâs light weight and sits in a pocket comfortably. It also attaches to my iPhone video cage. It is plastic and doesnât feel like a quality product (compared to my heavy and solidly constructed Sony PCM D-50 recorder) but it is an entry level recorder. For what it is Iâm very happy so far.

I bought this mainly to mount it on my camera to capture stereo ambient environmental sounds while filming, works really well and reasonable price from Amazon Japan.
