Fully Featured HDMI Field Monitor
Overall, this Viltrox HDMI Field Monitor comes with a lot of great features and accessories making it a great bang for the buck!PROS:IO – It’s got an HDMI in and HDMI output port. It’s got a SD card slot for LUT import. It’s got a 5 volt USBC in, with an optional DC 12 volt power plug input connector. It’s got a side mount and bottom mount for mounting to a camera cage, and it’s got a dedicated on and off physical switch.Learning Curve – Very simple to use, I did not look at the instructions and picked it up, mounted it to my Sony FX3, plugged in the HDMI cable, and just started using it.Lens Hood – This right here makes all the difference. If you’re an event or wedding videographer, I shoot weddings all the time and in bright daylight, and it’s hard to pick up proper exposure and color, but this detachable lens hood makes the HDMI monitor perfect for shooting in any condition, providing a big screen that will be protected from the sun.Interface – The almost 6 inch touch screen monitor is really responsive, but what blew me away was all of the display options, which are easily activated with a click of the round knob on the side. It’s got a full volume bar, histogram, vector parade, and LUT table displayed, and because the monitor is so big, it makes it easy viewing the live feed with the addition of the display options on the screen. You can even switch to false color for really dialing in those skin tones in the field.CONS:Stability – The actual mounting bracket that comes with the monitor is a little loose and requires additional tightening once fitted to your camera, but that was a quick fix.Weight – It’s listed as 280 g, and I have a DJI mavic Pro 3 which is 249 g and I have to say this Monitor is a little heavier than my drone, but again, with all of the features and attachable battery it’s worth it, and you can probably trim some of that weight by using an external battery for the camera and the mount at the same time.Summary:Without having another external monitor to compare it to, it’s hard to truly gauge the Viltrox DC-550 pro against its competition, however, if you are using the cameras built-in LCD screen, this is a night and day experience and this portable monitor will totally change the way you set up and configure your shots for those day of events, especially weddings. I wish I had this now for all of my weddings as It would have made exposing and checking color so much more easier. So if you’re coming from no monitor, I definitely recommend this as a good first portable display for your mirrorless or DSLR camera.

excellent value
this monitor is very good. I recommend getting the power supply as the battery does not last very long.

Love the Built in Luts and the touch screen! Makes this a great budget option!
I mainly do YouTube work and film weddings. This is perfect for both situations. I love being able to monitor my SLOG3 from my Sony camera on this monitor. It has built in SLOG3 conversion, but I use the SD card slot to upload my own luts to the monitor. I just used a cheap SD card and leave it in this monitor. Then I know exactly what it will look like when I go to color grade. It displays full 4K and outputs in 1080p. Very easy to navigate because its a touch screen and the big rotary dial works great too. Has all the way forms and false color and all. It is very lite weight, and includes two different types of HDMI (mini, and full) cables. The battery included is a plus and its a very nice battery. There is a button on the back to indicate how much charge it has. Can’t beat this for the price. Tempted to buy another to leave in the studio.

Great product and you get what you pay for
The colors are great..they wonât pop out like an OLED screen or an apple product but more like a pc screen- great colors but spot on I wouldnât necessarily say but as I saidâ¦get what you pay for- but it gets the job done for sure

Super bright and usable in full sun
Works really well – only missing feature – and not a surprise – is the lack of focus from touchscreen. I knew it was not available but it would be so nice if it was. Still, this is very bright and easy to use in all situations, and has nice features. Given the price this over-delivers.

Great price, not very bright, and zero color information.
So to be fair, and the reason I didn’t dock the rating more, is that there is no mention of any color reporting in the copy of the listing. However, I didn’t even look at the listing copy when I did my review. I found a toggle for “RGB Parade”. Unfortunately it’s neither RGB or a parade, not even an RGB waveform. The only info this monitor will give you is luminance. I find it odd that you can load a LUT but not see any color information whatsoever. That, and the fact that it’s only 400 nits are the main two things I think the average buyer needs to consider on this one. If you don’t need color information, great. And if you’re mostly using this indoors, also great. I don’t think the hood is going to help too much on a very bright day outside.Other observations:- The hood is fantastic. And that’s great, because you’re gonna need it. It’s a hard shell pop up, and it’s removable.- The menu system is easy to navigate either by button/wheel or touch screen. Touch screen at this price, pretty nice.- If you use a monitor mount with pins, make sure they are retractable. This monitor has one-sided recesses for both the horizontal and vertical mount.- The 1/4-20 threads appear to be molded into the plastic case, not a brass insert. Be carful with this one – very easy to over drive and rip your threads out.- Basic F-key functions are available, but I’d like to see more options. Particularly for me, I use H-Flip a lot, and would love to have an F-key dedicated to that. They don’t allow it.- Mine came with Full HDMI-HDMI (nice), and HDMI-Mini. No micro. All in all, a good monitor if you can work within its limitations. Just be aware that the “RGB Parade” in the menu is wrong.

Works really well in sunlight but the included battery only has 1 hour run time, can be powered via usb-c powerbank which is handy
