On Monday afternoon, an emergency alert was issued by the City of Grande Prairie due to a disruption in 911 service in the northern part of Alberta.
City officials reported, “Grande Prairie 911 is currently facing technical issues and is not operational. Telus is looking into the matter.”
“This issue affects calls to 911 from both mobile phones and landlines. Residents in the impacted area may struggle to reach emergency services by dialing 911.”
Additionally, the alert was also extended to more than a dozen other municipalities in northwestern Alberta.

The announcement was made at 12:27 p.m.
If individuals cannot connect to 911, they are advised to remain on the line if a recorded message plays, retry their call if disconnected, and to visit local emergency services such as RCMP, firefighters, and paramedics in person.
