Fans of Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding won’t have to wait much longer to dive back into the world of the acclaimed delivery and exploration game Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, featuring Sam Porter (Norman Reedus).
With just under two weeks to go until its launch, host Geoff Keighley, Kojima, and the cast shared more insights into Death Stranding 2 during a premiere livestream. They teased its opening scenes, unique combat mechanics, and much more. Joining Kojima and Keighley were Troy Baker (returning as Higgs), Shioli Kutsuna (voicing a new character named Rainy), and the soundtrack composer Woodkid.
A key moment of the premiere was a live demonstration of the game’s opening five minutes, set on the border of Mexico, where Sam navigates a sprawling mountainous terrain towards his hideout. This segment acts as a tutorial and gives players an early glimpse of their role as a porter. Kojima disclosed that the story starts 11 months after the events of the original Death Stranding. He also highlighted that the game’s soundtrack would change based on player actions and that natural disasters, such as earthquakes, wildfires, and avalanches, will dynamically occur in the game’s environment.

After the tutorial, viewers were treated to an action sequence involving Neil (Luca Marinelli) in an otherworldly setting, reminiscent of the intense battles from the first game against Cliff Unger (Mads Mikkelsen) in WWI trenches. The gameplay showcased expanded combat options, allowing players to approach battles in various ways depending on their chosen weapons and tools. A tar cannon was notably used to extinguish fires and defeat foes, while other armaments, like a blood boomerang, grenade pistol, and tactical military gadgets such as smoke grenades, were employed against Neil and his skeletal adversaries.

The presentation also introduced the game’s mobile hub: the DHV Magellan, and revealed new characters like Rainy and Tomorrow (Elle Fanning). Fans gained insights into Fanning’s contributions to the game’s soundtrack and her character Tomorrow, who demonstrated special powers like teleporting through tar pools and aging enemies by touch during a dynamic action scene.

The event wrapped up with Kojima emphasizing that while the game aims to amaze players with its gameplay and narrative, its central theme revolves around “connecting the world.”

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has certainly raised expectations for fans. Get ready to reconnect the world on 26 June 2025, exclusively on the PlayStation 5. Additionally, aspiring porters can enter for a chance to win a trip to Taipei and participate in the DEATH STRANDING WORLD STRAND TOUR 2 TAIPEI, meeting Kojima and the game’s art director, Yoji Shinkawa.
