The Samsung S85F (QD-OLED) features a distinctive subpixel layout. Rather than aligning all three subpixels in a straight line, each pixel is arranged in a triangular format, with the larger green subpixel positioned at the top. This arrangement can cause color fringing; for instance, when viewing a bright window on a Windows PC, you might see a green edge at the top where the green subpixel is located. Similarly, a purple fringe may appear at the bottom of bright windows due to the presence of red and blue subpixels. Additionally, this subpixel configuration means that text clarity on a PC is just moderate since the Windows ClearType settings aren’t optimized for this layout and cannot compensate effectively.
The television employs quantum dots to attain vibrant color peaks while ensuring excellent separation between blue, green, and red shades. This technology results in remarkable color purity and enables the TV to showcase an extraordinarily broad spectrum of colors.
