President Trump has a message for the children of America: Get ready to make sacrifices for your country.
During a lengthy cabinet meeting, he addressed questions about his tariff policies and the ongoing trade dispute with China, acknowledging that it might lead to some store shelves being less stocked than usual—especially in toy stores.
“Someone mentioned that ‘Oh, the shelves are going to be bare,’” Trump commented. “Well, maybe kids will only get two dolls instead of 30. And those two dolls might cost a bit more than usual.”
This statement comes from a billionaire president, who has a lavish lifestyle complete with a golden office and a luxurious apartment, yet he tells American children they might have to settle for fewer toys this year for a greater cause.
His unfiltered comment reflects reality.
Many toy manufacturers and retailers in the U.S. are beginning to suspend their orders as Trump’s tariffs disrupt supply chains, posing a threat to the upcoming holiday season—products often require months to manufacture, package, and ship to the U.S.
Greg Ahearn, CEO of the Toy Association, which represents 850 toy manufacturers in the U.S., told The Times that there is currently a “frozen supply chain that jeopardizes Christmas.”
“If we don’t begin production soon,” Ahearn warned, “there’s a significant chance of a toy shortage this holiday season.”
Are you listening, kids?
