On Monday, President Donald Trump announced he would be shortening his G7 trip after stating on his social media site, Truth Social, that “everyone should evacuate Tehran immediately!”
Trump isn’t alone; Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is also attending the G7 in Alberta, Canada, plans to cut his trip short too, according to Fox News.
“I need to return,” Trump mentioned during a group photo opportunity with other leaders at the G7 summit. “You can see what I see. I must be back as quickly as possible.”

The president’s remarks were made as the White House confirmed his early departure from the trip “due to the situation in the Middle East.” Trump has also asked his National Security Council to be ready for his return, as Fox News reports.

Trump’s shift in plans follows a message on Truth Social urging “everyone” in Iran to “evacuate.”
In the wake of his post, videos claiming to show Iranians leaving their capital have begun circulating on social media.

Sources familiar with the situation say that the U.S. is not planning to strike Iran and is maintaining a defensive stance following the president’s remarks.

Additionally, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth informed Fox News that the U.S. remains “in a defensive posture” before heading to the situation room Monday night.
“What you’re witnessing is peace through strength, prioritizing America. Our role is to be resilient,” Hegseth stated during an interview with Jesse Waters on Monday night. “As Secretary of Defense, my responsibility is to keep our people safe and ensure our strength fosters conditions for a peace agreement. President Trump has made it clear; it’s available. The real question is whether Iran will accept it.”
