The competition for the film rights to Split Fiction, which adapts the popular cooperative game from Hazelight Studios, has reportedly concluded. As per Variety, Amazon MGM Studios has officially secured the rights to this project, which will pair director Jon M. Chu, known for Wicked, with actress Sydney Sweeney.

Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, the writers known for Deadpool and Wolverine, are working on the screenplay. Sydney Sweeney will also take on the role of executive producer, collaborating with Timothy I. Stevenson from Story Kitchen, and Josef Fares and Oskar Wolontis from Hazelight Studios.
No additional information has been released regarding the Split Fiction film, such as casting choices, plot details, or how closely it will align with the game. It’s also not specified if Sweeney will portray Zoe or Mio, the two main characters in the game.
Created by Fares and Sebastian Johansson, Split Fiction tells the story of two authors who find themselves trapped in their own fictional worlds. The narrative is designed to enhance the cooperative gameplay, featuring split-screen combat, platforming puzzles, and unique skills for each character.

The game has been well-received by both critics and players, boasting impressive sales of over one million copies within just two days. Additionally, Hazelight’s previous hit, It Takes Two, is also being adapted into a film by Amazon and Seven Bucks Productions.
Moreover, this movie is just one of several video game projects on Sydney Sweeney’s agenda. The Euphoria star is also set to team up with director Michael Bay for a live-action version of Sega’s classic 1986 arcade game, OutRun.
