The Nintendo Switch 2 has become a remarkable success, making it the fastest-selling console in the company’s history. Within just the first four days, 3.5 million units have been sold globally.
Nintendo described this achievement as the “highest global sales level for any Nintendo hardware within the first four days,” indicating that the Switch 2 is likely the quickest-selling console of all time. For comparison, the Sony PS5 sold 3.4 million units in its first four weeks after launch.
While not all companies disclose their sales figures for the initial days of release, it’s clear that this performance exceeds all previous Nintendo and Sony consoles. Additionally, the latest Xbox consoles did not match the PS5’s sales, making it almost certain that the Switch 2 is the fastest to achieve 3.5 million sold.
In the U.S., retailers have experienced significant demand for the Switch 2, with successful midnight launches and many stores using the “Out of stock” banners provided by Nintendo.
“People around the globe are demonstrating their excitement for Nintendo Switch 2, which offers an enhanced way to enjoy gaming at home and on the go,” stated Doug Bowser, Nintendo’s Chief Operating Officer.
“We appreciate the positive response and are thrilled to see gamers already enjoying their Nintendo Switch 2 as they discover new features and games that connect friends and family in innovative ways.”
Nintendo has not yet shared any player statistics for its new flagship title, Mario Kart World, but it’s expected to be popular, with reports suggesting that nearly half of the consoles sold included the game.
