Sony Electronics Introduces “Camera Verify” Feature to Enhance Image Authenticity for News Outlets
This new beta feature allows for the external sharing of image authenticity details through a specific URL.
SAN DIEGO, June 26, 2025 – Sony Electronics has unveiled the beta version of Camera Verify, a fresh feature of its Camera Authenticity Solutioni. This allows news organizations to share authenticity information about images via a unique URL.
This innovation addresses the increasing need for verifying the genuineness of digital images, especially in an era dominated by generative artificial intelligence (AI).
As AI-generated and altered content continues to evolve, the demand for reliable and verifiable images is more critical than ever, particularly for media professionals.
Sony’s Camera Authenticity Solution aims to fulfill this need by incorporating C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity)ii digital signatures and proprietary 3D depth data directly into the image at the moment it is captured.
This system captures C2PA digital signatures and 3D depth data within the camera as the image is taken, allowing the authenticity details to be checked on the Image Validation Siteiii.
With the new “Camera Verify” Beta, news outlets can generate external sharing URLs for images with these embedded digital signatures. This allows third parties to access verification results via trustworthy URLs directly from the verification siteiv.
Organizations can choose specific authenticity information to share during content publication and distribution, enabling quicker sharing of credible, verifiable material.
Additionally, the Digital Signature Upgrade License, which enables the embedding of digital signatures directly into images captured with compatible Sony cameras, is now available for purchase on the Camera Authenticity Solution websiteiii, broadening access for more professionalsv.
Looking ahead, Sony plans to extend support to video content after fall 2025, reinforcing its dedication to fostering trusted digital media. Along with its involvement with the C2PA steering committee, Sony is committed to enhancing content reliability within the media sector.
