Kagiso Rabada has been suspended for one month after testing positive for cocaine, as reported by the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport.
The fast bowler, who was playing for the Gujarat Titans, acknowledged his mistake and apologized after returning home from the Indian Premier League in April.
At 30 years old and currently ranked No. 2 among Test bowlers, Rabada revealed that the positive test was linked to the use of a recreational substance.
He was tested in January during his participation in the SA20 league with MI Cape Town, and SAIDS disclosed that they found Benzoylecgonine, a byproduct of cocaine.
Following his suspension, Rabada played in two matches for Gujarat, who ended the tournament in third place.
He is set to lead South Africa’s bowling lineup in the World Test Championship final against Australia at Lord’s from June 11-15.
