A powerful earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale hit the North Pacific Ocean near Ecuador on Friday, as reported by the United States Geological Survey.
The quake occurred at 6:44 a.m. local time, roughly 12 miles northeast of Esmeraldas, Ecuador, according to the agency’s data.
While seismologists analyze the data, they might adjust the recorded magnitude of the earthquake. New information could also lead to updates in the shake-severity map by U.S.G.S. scientists.
