   I struck out on this but it is clearly awesome.
   I should have better educated myself on this unit. I cannot use it without spending a bit more cash but that is not the manufacturer’s fault, it is clearly mine. At the point of writing this review, I possess no filter this unit can accept. It seems to only only play nice with SmallRig filters which the manufacturer made fairly clear in the listing. I am a fool. I’ll give a review on my impression of it even though I haven’t used it.This thin is awesome and compact and I really, really want to use it for filters. It’s my favorite filter accessory I can’t use, lol. I can use it as a matte box however and it is a great one in my opinion. It fits so easily in any bag that there is no reason to leave on a shoot without this thing.The build quality is quite good and a prime example of SmallRig excellence. SmallRig always manages to hit a good price without passing off cheap, fragile garbage to its customers.

   This thing is great. It’s very versatile. Accommodate different size lenses which is great. The build quality is excellent. It works as an adjustable ND filter and it can hold a 100mm x 100mm filter in the front too. I recommend this product to serious video makers and photographers.

   Nice compact little matte box.
   Great materials, very compact. I’m worried about the one pivot point on the door. If it takes a hit while open, I wonder if it will hold up. It’s a bit fiddly getting it separated and put back on as well.But it has a good substantial feel.

   It’s simple and easy to use, but it sacrifices quality
   Easy to put together. But the way it mounts on a lens is not great. It’s innovative and cool in the fact that it can mount to any lens. It just doesn’t mount very securely and can be easily knocked off. I haven’t had any issues yet but I do view it as a bit of a liability. It’s cheap plastic. It’s over priced. But I suppose it does the job. The VND is cool, but again, I try to avoid messing with it too much as to not accidentally knock the whole thing off the lens. I’d maybe recommend waiting until a better version, or until Tilta makes a copy of it, and hope that it works better.

   I’ve been a hobbyist photographer since the 1970s, but was able to more seriously pursue certain forms of photography in earlier years due to work and the time necessary to raise a family. However, I am now enjoying retirement and have opportunities to expand and experiment with the types of photography I have previously missed out on.I have acquired this very well-designed and constructed SmallRig Matte Box as a first step towards utilizing a professional level filtering system for more specialized projects with scenes that include sunrises, sunsets and other high contrast situations where adding ND filters can make a striking difference in outcomes.I am extremely pleased with this product! SmallRig has continued to fairly consistently develop a welcomed reputation for bringing quality photographic equipment/accessories to the market, and this rectangular & circular filter holding, clamping frame for DSLR & mirrorless systems is certainly one such addition.The matte box holds 4″ x 5.65″ rectangular filters via a hinged release, side-opening slot. The SmallRig matte box can also accommodate 67mm magnetic circular filters compatible with this type system. The matte box’s clamping mechanism will accept lens diameters from 67mm to 82mm.I recommend this product to others who are also looking to challenge their more innovative photographic capabilities.

   Really disappointing
   I love smallrig products and I’ve built almost my entire camera setup with smallrig…but this is the first product from them that missed the mark for me and it’s really disappointing. Like several reviews said…the way it attaches to the lens is not great. Any bump or knock on the matte box sends it falling to the ground. After the last fall, I got a large crack in my CPL 1 filter. I don’t normally write bad reviews, I’ll just return the item instead… but since it’s damaged I can’t return it so I’m hoping I’ll save someone else the trouble by writing this. The anxiety of having this thing hanging on by a thread at the end of the camera simply is not worth the benefit of having a build in VND which is the main reason I wanted it. I will gladly use screw on filters or plate filters before having a flimsily attached matte box.Speaking of plate filters, I don’t see how you could really use them. Every time I took the slide out while it was on the camera, the matte box would come loose. Additionally, you have to snug up the screw on the top flag pretty hard to get the flag to stay in position…the matte box stays on for that, but every single time I loosen the screw, the pressure it takes to loosen it makes the matte box come loose and fall off. It became easier to just take off the whole thing to make any adjustments and then put it back on after. Really a pain.The “third point of contact” which is the screw on top is mostly useless. If you tighten it snugly, it dislodges the matte box from the threads. You can only tighten it to where it touches because any further and you have to start over when it falls off. This is not a solid point of contact and again, useless.Again, I really love smallrig and hate writing bad reviews…but this was just a really bad purchase and if you’re on the fence, it’s probably better to just go with something that has a real mount, not a flimsy thread squeezer. I will be buying another matte box soon and tossing this one in the trash.Also, I did try the other solution to make it work. Smallrig makes an attachment to mount the matte box to 15mm rods. I purchased this hoping it would solve the problem, but it didn’t so I returned it. The matte box wiggles in the mount and does not stay flat to the lens. Additionally, it interferes with where I place my follow focus so I had to take off the rod mount because I need my follow focus in that spot.

    Bonjour.Cette matte Box est simplement géniale.Polyvalente elle s’adapte aux objectifs de 67mm à 82mm par un système de clip par pression, ce qui la rend très rapide à utiliser.La matte box est en 2 parties, un porte filtre qui accepte les filtres aimantés et la matte box que l’on vient clipser dessus.2 filtres sont fournis, CPL1 et CPL2 qui, lorsque assemblé sur le porte filtre forme le filtre VND, sur le porte filtre on as une petite molette qui permet de faire varier le filtre.On peut donc utiliser le porte filtre sans la matte box ce qui rend ce système polyvalent.Le volet pare soleil est pratique et se verrouille par une petite vis munie d’une languette.La fabrication est de très bonne qualité comme smallrig sait le faire.La matte box est légère avec un faible encombrement ce qui me permet de l’utiliser sur le stabilisateur sans soucis.Il est livré avec des caches magnétiques pour la poussière lors du stockage.Les filtres sont dans une pochette bien protégés.Seul regret, ne pas avoir un petit sas de rangement pour la matte box.AmitiéLaurent

    La confezione è molto bella, me ne son innamorato!Nella scatola troviamo la matte box ed una custodia rigida e molto carina in cui riporre tutti i nostri filtri.L’installazione è facilissima, ha un grosso range verso cui è compatibile, da 67mm a 82mm, basta stringere con le maniglie laterali, inserire l’obbiettivo e lasciar andar le maniglie così che vadano a bloccare il tutto, poi con una vite che stringiamo a mano andiamo a bloccar l’obbiettivo anche dall’alto ed il gioco è fatto.Aperta la matte box, troviamo un coperchio magnetico comodissimo per coprire anche eventualmente il filtro nd che montiamo, così da non dover metter e togliere sempre, poi possiamo con la rotella posta in alto andar a regolare gli stop del filtro nd in uso.A proposito, possiamo andar ad aggiungere o togliere anche altri filtri nostri personali, inserendoli dall’alto comodamente.Penso sia un accessorio estremamente utile soprattutto in ambito video, e soprattutto con luci forti dall’alto che vogliamo andar a regolare, ovviamente è un prodotto per professionisti ed è comunque relegato a determinate situazioni e non è il classico oggetto da aver sempre con se dietro, bisogna sapere quando usarlo e quando lasciarlo a casa dato che comunque ha il suo ingombro.Complessivamente mi è piaciuto tanto, si sente la qualità, si vede che è pensato e progettato bene per andar a risolvere un problema che si può presentare.Mi è piaciuto tanto
