At 56, Owen Wilson is finally discovering how to “stop and enjoy the moment.”
The Academy Award-nominated actor, celebrated for his comedic performances in films such as “Wedding Crashers,” “Zoolander,” and “Meet the Parents,” takes on the role of Pryce Cahill in the new Apple TV+ series “Stick.” Pryce is a former professional golfer seeking to redeem himself.
While at Liberty National Golf Club in New Jersey, Wilson shared how his views on success have shifted throughout his lengthy career in Hollywood.
“There’s research suggesting that people find the most happiness after turning 50 — as a child, I struggled to accept that,” Wilson remarked. “But now, I find myself genuinely happy and content.”
He mentioned that he has let go of the earlier pressures he experienced in his career, where disappointing results felt devastating.
“In the beginning, if something didn’t perform well, I was lost. I’d think, ‘What’s next for me?'” he explained. “It felt like everything hinged on each project, creating immense pressure to succeed. Now, I feel a sense of calm and am indeed taking the time to enjoy life.”
Wilson has been candid about his mental health challenges, a theme that plays a significant role in “Stick.” The series delves into what he describes as “a reckoning that most people encounter in life.”
“The concept of hitting rock bottom reminds me of tough times in my life, and how important it was to rely on others — family and friends,” Wilson added. “I see that reflected in this show.”
Remaining as engaged as ever in Hollywood, Wilson stated he has come to view setbacks as essential experiences that can lead to growth.
“We can often look back at negative experiences and realize that without them, we wouldn’t have reached the positive outcomes we enjoy,” he noted.
The first season of “Stick” is now available for streaming on Apple TV+.
