On Sunday night, Illinois State University issued an emergency alert as campus police searched for a suspect who reportedly “fired a gun” on or near the campus.
The university announced that there was “one reported victim,” though the victim’s status remains unknown.
The incident took place around the Bone Student Center on West Locust Street in Normal, Illinois.
The alert advised everyone to “avoid Bone.”

Authorities stated that a search is ongoing for the suspect, described as a “slender black male, approximately 5’10” with an afro hairstyle, dressed in all black.”
He was last seen “running south on University and College Streets.”
On Sunday evening, the ISU Emergency Alert was sent out, advising individuals to “exercise caution” due to reports of gunfire at the student center.

Officials are asking the public to “avoid University and Locust Streets and the Bone Student Center” while officers work to secure the area. The university announced that Bone remains closed.
No shelter-in-place order was issued for the campus.
The emergency alert indicated that the suspect “may be armed and dangerous,” posing “an immediate threat.”
