Incredibly small and compact
Using this as a master flash on my Z6 to trigger an Speedlite SB700. Very simple to set up and use. Could even be used on top of the camera to take the place of a built in flash.

An excellent tiny manual flash.
This is a very basic flash that doesn’t communicate with the camera at all and can’t focus the light to adjust for different focal lengths. This isn’t going to be a problem for everyone but I thought I would mention that first. The lack of TTL and other features is expected at this price range, the power output on the other hand wasn’t expected. This tiny thing gets a lot brighter than you’d think, easily filling a decent size room with plenty of light plus it can be set as a secondary flash and be triggered by your main flash. I found that that feature works well. I don’t think battery life will be as good as larger flashes running on four AA batteries but I don’t use this flash too often anyway and I could always put in some fully charged AAA batteries if needed. The diffuser works well and the user interface is pretty simple. Build quality is very good for a $30 flash and I’m not worried about it at all. The best thing about this tiny thing is its size and weight. If you want to travel light this flash is a great option or if you need a second off camera flash. Just remember that this is a simple flash and everything will need to be adjusted manually. It comes with two different filters for incandescent and florescent lighting plus a diffuser. The battery door is a bit finicky but not too bad. It is also tethered to the unit so you won’t drop it and lose it somewhere. The quality of the light is very good and it has a locking pin that goes into your camera to prevent the flash from coming off if it gets bumped or snagged. I really like this tiny thing.

Not the flash for me
The flash probably has the right use for someone but it is not me, for instance a couple things I found weird was that the diffusers for the flash which come as white blue and yellow variants have to be forced on the standard flash as it doesnt seem to be form fitted to it and needs to be pushed on which ends up deforming the edges of the diffuser, considering these are just plastic its likely these will end up snapping cracking or splitting apart. The other thing is that this flash does not read out from the hot shoe so any flash calculations have to be made manually which to me makes it more intensive to use for my photography. The dependence on AAA batteries is also annoying since the charge time seems to be elongated after use. This was not the flash for me I tried it but the functionality is too much of a hassle instead of integrating nicely.

the BEST bang for your buck. Portable and intuitive
I ordered the Godox iM30 flash thru the Amazon Vine program to test out and review. These are my honest thoughts about the product. I am a hobbyist photographer who has been interested in learning how to incorporate flash into outdoor portraiture by using a “manual” old-school flash as opposed to a Speedlight which enables you to shoot with a faster shutter speed. My plan is to use ND filters and measure to ambient background light, and use the flash to illuminate the subject thus preventing a washed out background and a sharp portrait at the same time. A simple technique which creates dramatic portraits. I also wanted something small I can carry in my camera bag on the go. The Godox iM30 is the cheapest flash in the Godox line of flashes and certainly the smallest. It is 100% a manual flash. It can also be used as a “slave” flash which will detect another flash and fire simultaneously however I didn’t test that. The IM30 arrived quickly and was packaged extremely well. Although small it feels like a very well built product. It includes several diffusers in various tints. It runs off 2 AAA batteries (not included) and power lasts a very long time. The battery cover is attached to the flash by a small rubber band to minimize the chance of losing it which is nice. Setting the power is done using a scroll wheel located on the top of the unit. Of course this flash can also be used to illuminate dark environments, and sans a diffuser you can achieve an old school “paparazzi” washed out effect if that is what you are after. It is compatible with any camera with a hot shoe, I tested mine with my Sony a7iii. However, any brand camera should work provided it has a hot shoe which can “communicate” with the unit. One drawback is the flash cannot be pointed in different directions so you would not be able to bounce it off a wall or ceiling to achieve a more diffused look. It is permanently facing forward just above your camera lens. You can adjust your camera settings with this flash and achieve a slow sync blur effect as well if that is your desired look. All in all at it’s price point, and given it’s build quality, portability, low power consumption, and recycling speed this is an exceptional little flash which should belong in every camera bag.

Perfect Little Flash for On-the-Go Shooting!
The Godox iM30 Mini Flash is an absolute gem! Itâs super compact, lightweight, and easy to toss in my camera bag without taking up much space. Despite its small size, it delivers impressive power with 7 levels of adjustment and reliable performance. The built-in diffuser gives a nice, soft light thatâs perfect for portraits and close-ups. I also love the S1/S2 optical slave modes for off-camera creativity. Battery life is excellent, giving me plenty of flashes per charge. Perfect for travel, casual shoots, or even as a backup flash. Highly recommended for anyone needing a simple, powerful little flash!

Easy to use
Super easy to set up and use. I like how compact it is and easy to bring around. I use it on my Sony A7C, and Sony A7III and works perfectly with those. It’s pretty bright and gives that classic front flash look.
