“Global News and former MP Han Dong have settled Mr. Dong’s lawsuit regarding reports that included allegations against him.
Global News acknowledges the findings from the Final Report of the Public Inquiry into Foreign Interference, which confirms that Mr. Dong did not suggest the PRC prolong the detention of Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor, as reviewed by Justice Marie Josee Hogue.
The reports published by Global were based on information obtained from confidential intelligence sources.
Mr. Dong has consistently denied the validity of this intelligence. In covering the accusations against him, Global News aimed to address issues of significant public concern while clarifying that the claims were unverified and open to various interpretations.
Dong chose not to participate in the April 28th election, resulting in Maggie Chi, representing the Liberal Party of Canada, being elected in Don Valley North.
