Exciting memories of the speedy Clairvoyance were rekindled at the Lark Hill trials on Tuesday as her half-brother, Dance On Son, seemed to have inherited much of her talent.
Making his debut, Dance On Son, the son of Snippetson, relaxed in the barriers and was left behind at the start by more than a length.
This gave his competitors a head start in the 400m race, including Ryan Hill’s London’s Rascal, who took an early lead.
Despite being at least two lengths behind London’s Rascal, Dance On Son received encouragement from Jessica Valas and began to pick up speed.
By the 200m mark, the strong colt was in full stride and soon caught up to the leader, taking the front position.
With confidence, Dance On Son pulled away from the experienced London’s Rascal, winning by a length in a time of 24.34 seconds.
This time was notably faster than the other two-year-old heat held that morning and matched the performance of This’ll Show Ya, a three-year-old with four wins, during the following trial.
This effort mirrored that of his older sister Clairvoyance in her first trial as a two-year-old, where she also took a bit longer to get going but finished strongly.
Clairvoyance had a successful outing as a two-year-old, winning her only race before dominating her first three races as a three-year-old with margins of five lengths each.
Though her career was cut short due to issues, the daughter of Nostradamus delighted fans by winning 7 out of 11 races and earning $530,000 in prize money.
Following her last race in March 2022, she was sold for $330,000 in July 2023 and is now owned by the well-known breeding firm Peters Investments.
Dance On Son was available at a relatively low price at the 2024 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale but was passed in at $32,500, falling short of his $40,000 reserve.
Darren McAuliffe, who trained Clairvoyance during her career, is also training Dance On Son and previously trained Cape Leeuwin, who also won earlier.
Cape Leeuwin shared a barrier with Buster Biff – the half-sibling of the sadly departed 2023 Perth Cup winner, Buster Bash – then balanced to take the lead alongside fellow stablemate Reconnaissance.
The two competed closely throughout the trial, and under a bit more pressure, Cape Leeuwin managed to nip ahead of Reconnaissance at the finish.
This marked the third trial for the son of I’m All The Talk after winning a 600m trial on January 28 this year and finishing second to Playin’it Sweet in a 400m heat at the Bunbury fibresand track.
Since that race, Playin’it Sweet has continued strong performances, placing third in consecutive metropolitan-class events for two-year-olds in the past month.
+ Following impressive victories in the last two weeks, the emerging chaser West On Sidney leads the nominations for Saturday’s Winter Cup (520m) series at Cannington.
