Former NBA All-Star Dwight Howard has shared the sad news that his dog, Sunday, passed away last week after being struck by a vehicle.
“I’m heartbroken because you were my constant companion, always by my side. The one time you strayed from me, someone cruelly took you away,” Howard expressed in a heartfelt Instagram message. “How could anyone do this to such an innocent girl without feeling any remorse?”
Howard urged anyone with information about a Belgian Malinois that was hit on June 18 in Suwanee, Georgia, to get in touch with him.

He wrote that the car “just drove away” after the accident involving Sunday.
“From the day I got you, Sunday, you were more than a pet… You were my solace. My guardian. A symbol of all that is lovely and peaceful, just like those serene Sunday mornings,” Howard noted in his post.
“You embraced unlike anyone else. Barked at the silliest things as if they were crucial. And every time I called out your name, you raced over, as if your only goal was to love me… You brought me joy. You radiated warmth. You were my girl. Your life ended far too early. You helped me smile through all of life’s challenges, but now what do I do without my Sunday Sunshine…”

“I’ve been trying to keep this inside… but it’s tearing me apart to seek answers! I need to know what happened to my beautiful Sunday. Rest in peace, Sunday. You will always be my baby. Your spirit will stay with me forever.”
The Suwanee Police Department has not yet responded to inquiries from Fox News Digital.
Howard posted various pictures and videos of Sunday, including one of them together on an outdoor basketball court.
During his time as a starter in the 2017-2018 season, Howard averaged 17.4 points and 12.7 rebounds per game. He led the league in rebounds per game five times in six seasons from 2007 to 2013.
