Relations between Pakistan and India have soured further following New Delhi’s accusation that Islamabad is connected to a recent militant attack on tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir.
Both countries have revoked visas for their nationals and instructed them to depart, subsequently closing their busiest border crossing in Punjab.
“She is stuck on the Indian side of the border, and they won’t allow her to return. I’m very anxious,” said Ali, a 31-year-old heating technician, in an interview with AFP.
Ali mentioned that his wife, who holds Indian citizenship, has a Pakistani visa that is valid until November and was supposed to come back to Karachi soon, while he awaits updates from his side of the crossing.
“The genuine criminals should be apprehended and held accountable, yet it’s ordinary individuals like us who are facing undue hardship,” he remarked.
Indian authorities have initiated a search for the fugitive gunmen, two of whom are reportedly from Pakistan.
