Streicker 2023 Ironstone Block, Chenin Blanc, Margaret River, $35
Coming from the Wilyabrup vineyard, this wine serves as a great reminder of why we should favor WA chenin over other, trendier varieties that may lack depth. This old vine version is vibrant and full of personality, showcasing its typical elegant silhouette and zesty finish. It features refreshing notes of spicy red apple and subtle floral hints, similar to geraldton wax, alongside flavors like apple crumble, pie crust, and smooth vanilla. It boasts good acidity drawn from the vineyard and a long-lasting flavor profile, with just the right touch of winemaking and barrel aging for added complexity. 93/100
Streicker 2018 Nysa Wilyabrup, Margaret River, $120
This wine is effectively a museum release from an outstanding vintage. The Nysa stands out as a strong, intense blend that has been influenced by oak. Uncommonly for the region, cabernet franc is treated as an equal partner to cabernet sauvignon (52%/48%). While “franc” can sometimes be lighter, this version leans towards a richness with a creamy, dry character. Flavors of cedar, toasty notes, vanilla, dried herbs, and tobacco harmonize beautifully with blackcurrant, blackberry, and mulberry. It provides great value for its price. 93/100
Streicker 2023 Bridgeland Block Pinot Noir, Margaret River, $40
Pinot noir is a rare find in Margaret River, but this cooler, southern Karridale region might be the ideal spot for its cultivation. This plush pinot is reminiscent of some offerings from Pemberton, showcasing lush red fruits including strawberry jam, raspberry coulis, and a touch of cherry. It is well-balanced, easy to enjoy, and finished with smooth tannins, a hint of cocoa, and a trace of cedar. Designed for early drinking and enjoyment. 90/100
