SEOUL: The Chinese AI service DeepSeek was re-launched in South Korean app stores on Monday (Apr 28) after being taken down for nearly two months due to data protection violations.
On Thursday, South Korea’s Personal Information Protection Commission revealed that DeepSeek had transferred user data and inputs without consent when it first debuted in the country back in January.
Following concerns about the handling of personal data, downloads of the app were halted in February. However, it has now become available again on various platforms, including Apple’s App Store and Google Play Store.
DeepSeek stated in an updated privacy policy for the app, “We handle your personal information in accordance with Korea’s Personal Information Protection Act.”
