Combat Update
- According to Ukraine’s Interior Ministry, Russian shelling in the city of Sumy resulted in four fatalities and injured 28 individuals, including three children.
- The same ministry reported that two people lost their lives in a fire that broke out following a Russian strike on residences in Chistovodivka, a village in the Kharkiv region.
- Ukraine’s SBU security service announced it detonated explosives targeting the underwater supports of the Crimea Bridge, which connects Russia to the Russian-occupied Crimea, causing “significant damage” to the bridge.
- The Russian Ministry of Transport stated that “regular operations” on the bridge have recommenced after previous “temporary closures,” though they did not clarify the cause of the disruption, as reported by Russia’s TASS news agency.
Military Assistance
- UK Defence Secretary John Healey revealed that the United Kingdom will allocate 350 million pounds ($473.5 million) to supply Ukraine with 100,000 drones, part of a broader military aid package totaling 4.5 billion pounds ($6 billion) this year.
Political Developments
- White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt confirmed that President Donald Trump was not informed beforehand about Ukraine’s recent drone strike on Russian airbases. When asked if Trump supported the attack, Leavitt noted that “the president does not want this war to be prolonged.”
- Senate Majority Leader John Thune mentioned that the Senate is set to begin drafting a bill aimed at imposing sanctions on Russia to push them toward genuine negotiations.
- Russia’s UN mission announced it would conduct an informal Security Council meeting at 10 am New York time (14:00 GMT) to discuss “understanding and eliminating the ideological root causes of the Ukrainian crisis.”
- Switzerland has decided to implement sanctions against “17 individuals and 58 entities” included in the European Union’s latest sanctions package as a response to Russia’s ongoing conflict with Ukraine.
