China’s Commerce Minister, Wang Wentao, recently engaged in a “pragmatic and constructive” dialogue about enhancing economic and trade ties with Australian Trade Minister Don Farrell in Paris, as reported by a statement from the Chinese commerce ministry.
Mr. Wang emphasized the need for both countries to improve communication and coordination within multilateral and regional frameworks, and to collaboratively support the multilateral trading system amid the significant challenges posed by unilateral actions and protectionist policies.
He also highlighted the importance of creating a favorable business environment for companies from both nations.
Senator Farrell is currently in France heading Australia’s delegation for the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting.
During this event, Australia will facilitate an informal meeting of World Trade Organisation ministers to focus on the essential role of an open global trading system.
