The image for December is from an amazing few days I spent on Mull with two friends, who kindly hosted me while I worked on the island.
Instead of squeezing in a quick day out between workshops, I traveled to the island specifically for an extended workshop where we focused on observing otters during the short daylight hours.
I often wonder why more clients don’t schedule workshops in winter months. We encountered numerous otters and had unforgettable moments, both with individual animals and families. Although the weather could be tricky at times, the island was mostly peaceful, allowing us to enjoy the otters uninterrupted.
This photo was taken on our first outing, where we followed a family featuring a mother and her two cubs for several hours. We watched them hunt, groom, sleep, nurse, and play. It was spectacular.
If you’re interested in experiencing something similar, consider booking a workshop during the off-season. From November to February, there are excellent opportunities to see otters, especially when the sun shines, casting its beautiful low winter light.
