A video captured in the Bronx depicts a man being dragged and harmed while trying to prevent a carjacker from stealing his vehicle, according to law enforcement officials.
The footage from April 24 shows the victim clinging to the side of his car as it drives away. Reports indicate that he had left the vehicle running and parked double to go into a Chinese restaurant for takeout.
In the clip, the suspect emerges from the back of an SUV before jumping into the unattended car. The owner quickly rushes into view, trying to stop the theft.

“The officers of the NYPD have achieved record reductions in crime and violence,” Tisch remarked. “In the first quarter of this year, we’ve brought shooting incidents to the lowest level on record and made our subways safer than they’ve been in nearly ten years. Our precision policing strategies are not just successful—they are producing exceptional results, making New York City the safest large city in the nation.”
“These significant drops in violence coincided with major crime reductions throughout all police precincts, with overall index crime decreasing by 10.9%,” the statement noted. “In this quarter alone, robberies fell by 22.8% (3,074 vs. 3,981), grand larcenies dropped by 13.7% (10,226 vs. 11,855), auto thefts were down 11.9% (2,773 vs. 3,148), burglaries decreased by 4.4% (3,043 vs. 3,184), and felony assaults declined by 2.7% (6,361 vs. 6,535).”

New York City Mayor Eric Adams commented on the crime decline, asserting that it was part of his original strategy.
“Public safety is essential for prosperity, which is why, from my first day in office, our administration has worked tirelessly to ensure New Yorkers feel safe and are safe,” Adams stated.
“While today’s figures indicate ongoing crime reduction across the five boroughs, this drop isn’t sudden—we’ve seen five consecutive quarters of decreasing crime, including the past six months. Thanks to the thousands of courageous men and women of the NYPD, New York City continues to be the safest large city in America, and we are only improving,” he noted.
