JAKARTA: Power has been completely restored on Indonesia’s Bali island as of early Saturday (May 3), following a lengthy blackout that began on Friday, according to a statement from the state utility company.
Darmawan Prasodjo, the president director of the state electricity company Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), indicated that preliminary reports suggest the outage was caused by a problem with subsea cables.
These cables link Bali’s electricity system to the island of Java.
PLN reported that the blackout affected multiple areas in Bali starting at 4 PM on Friday.
The island’s airport was also affected, but both inbound and outbound flights continued to operate using backup generators, though some departures experienced delays.
Bali is a prime tourist destination in Indonesia, attracting 6.3 million foreign visitors last year, as stated by the island’s statistics bureau.
