Two court officers in New York City were injured in what officials are describing as a “targeted attack.”
The incident occurred on Monday morning at the criminal court building in Lower Manhattan, as reported by state Office of Court Administration spokesperson Al Baker to Fox News.
“Initial reports indicate that at least two Court Officers sustained stab and slash wounds in the incident that unfolded just before 9:45 am in the south lobby of the building,” Baker said in a statement.
“Multiple Court Officers quickly rushed to apprehend the attacker, restraining him near a security checkpoint, disarming him, and taking him into custody,” he added.

The stabbings were caught on surveillance footage and appeared to specifically target the uniformed officers performing security duties at the courthouse, according to Baker.
The attacks took place outside the court’s metal detectors, and it’s still unclear how the weapon was smuggled into the lobby.
One officer managed to walk to an ambulance, while another required assistance and was taken in a wheelchair.

Both officers are currently in stable condition and expected to recover; however, the New York State Supreme Court Officers Association informed local FOX 5 that one officer sustained serious injuries to his face and neck.
A criminal investigation by the New York State Unified Court System is presently ongoing. Details about the suspect’s identity and potential charges have yet to be disclosed.

This incident occurred in the same building where former President Donald Trump’s criminal trial and Daniel Penny’s trial took place. In December 2024, Penny was acquitted of criminally negligent homicide in the subway chokehold death of Jordan Neely.
