Spaceballs, the 1987 spoof of the sci-fi genre, is set to receive a sequel from Amazon MGM Studios. The film will welcome back beloved characters like Bill Pullman and Rick Moranis, with Pullman’s son, Lewis Pullman, also in discussions to join the cast alongside his father.
The original film, directed by Mel Brooks, stars Bill Pullman as Lone Starr, a mercenary reminiscent of the Star Wars character Han Solo. He teams up with his alien companion Barf, portrayed by the late John Candy, to battle the malicious Spaceballs led by Moranis’ Dark Helmet. The movie was celebrated for its humorous take not just on the Star Wars saga but also on other iconic sci-fi films of the era, including Star Trek, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and Planet of the Apes.

Directed by Josh Greenbaum (Strays), the new film will also feature the return of Brooks as Yogurt, a character making fun of Star Wars’ Yoda, and Daphne Zuniga, who portrayed Princess Vespa, a take on Princess Leia.
According to sources from The Hollywood Reporter, Lewis Pullman (Thunderbolts, Top Gun: Maverick) is in talks to portray a character called Starburst, the offspring of Lone Starr and Vespa. New additions to the cast include Keke Palmer (Nope), playing a character named Destiny, and Josh Gad, who also contributed to the film’s script. The trio will take on leading roles in this upcoming movie.

“While the title and plot specifics are still under wraps, insiders who haven’t seen the script describe the film as ‘A Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two’ but with Reboot Elements for Franchise Expansion,” stated Amazon regarding this anticipated project.
The Spaceballs sequel does not have a confirmed release date yet but is expected to premiere sometime in 2027, according to Amazon MGM Studios.
