U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff has openly supported the impeachment of President Donald Trump after the news broke about a planned private dinner with major holders of the Official Trump meme coin.
During a town hall meeting in Georgia on April 25, Ossoff criticized the president, claiming he was “selling access” to his position.
“I noticed just 48 hours ago that he is meeting with people who purchase his meme coin,” Ossoff stated, as reported by NBC News.
“When the sitting president is essentially accepting money for access, it clearly constitutes an impeachable offense.”
Senator Supports Impeachment but Points Out Challenges Without Democrat Majority
While Ossoff expressed his strong support for impeachment actions, he recognized that such steps would encounter major obstacles unless Democrats regain control of Congress in the upcoming 2026 midterm elections.
At present, Republicans dominate both the House and the Senate.
The controversy arose from an announcement on the Official Trump memecoin website on April 23, detailing plans for an exclusive dinner organized by President Trump at his golf club in Washington, D.C.
This event is intended for the top 220 TRUMP token holders, and the website has shared a public leaderboard along with registration guidelines.
Following this announcement, the TRUMP token experienced a more than 50% increase, according to CoinMarketCap.
Participants wishing to attend the dinner must pass a background check and cannot be associated with any countries listed under Know Your Customer (KYC) regulations. Additionally, no guests are allowed.
TRUMP Token Team Refutes $300K Requirement for Dinner with President
In a statement released on April 24, the TRUMP token team clarified that participants are not required to spend $300,000 to enter the “Dinner with President Trump” raffle.
The team explained that entry eligibility includes various exchanges and locked holdings that are not part of the contest.
Eligibility is solely based on the registered users shown on the official leaderboard, which ranks $TRUMP balances based on the time they are held throughout the competition.
“Some people have mistakenly interpreted #220 on the block explorer as the cutoff. That’s incorrect because it also includes locked tokens, exchanges, market makers, and non-participants,” the team stated.
The project highlighted that all candidates must register to be counted. As of the announcement, the participant ranked 220th held just over $400 in tokens.
The leaderboard can be accessed at trumpdinner.gettrumpmemes.com.
Tokens from both cliff unlocks and daily distributions will remain locked for an extra 90 days, as per the team’s announcement, extending beyond the competition timeframe.
