MIYUN, China: On Thursday (June 26), a vehicle struck pedestrians near a primary school in Beijing, which police have termed an “accident.” Online footage revealed several young individuals lying severely injured in the street.
Videos, pinpointed by AFP to a crossroad in the Miyun district of northeastern Beijing, showed a grey SUV crashed against a tree, while several unresponsive individuals lay on the road.
In one video, a bloodied young person received first aid from someone dressed in white overalls, and in other clips, pieces of clothing were seen scattered around.
Chinese authorities confirmed that the injured were transported to hospitals, but they did not provide specific details regarding the number or conditions of those hurt.
“On June 26, 2025, at approximately 1 PM, a traffic incident took place near the intersection of Yucai Road and Dongmen Street in the Miyun district,” police stated in an announcement.
No. 1 Primary School Miyun Beijing, which serves children aged six to twelve, is situated right at the accident location.
A 35-year-old man with the surname Han reportedly “collided” with pedestrians “due to improper handling” of the vehicle, according to the police statement, which noted that the injured individuals were sent to the hospital.
“The investigation into the accident is ongoing,” the statement continued, without specifying how many people were hurt.
On Thursday evening, an AFP team observed around 30 spectators gathered behind yellow and black concrete barriers set by the police.
A pickup truck appeared to be clearing away parts of the tree that the vehicle had hit.
Shortly after their arrival, AFP reporters were instructed by police to vacate the scene.
A 19-year-old local named Cheng mentioned that he arrived at the intersection after hearing about the collision from his parents.
“When I got there, the victims had already been taken away and the car was gone,” he recounted, noting that he saw numerous people and emergency vehicles in the area at approximately 4 PM.
