Country artist Ronnie McDowell was taken to the hospital on Saturday after reportedly slurring his speech during his performance at the Summer Solstice Music Festival in Pennsylvania.
On Monday, McDowell was heading home after spending several days in the hospital, as per his son Tyler Dean McDowell. A spokesperson for the singer informed Fox News Digital that he was being assessed by medical staff that morning.
“I have Dad in the car and we’re on our way home! Either me or Ronnie Dean will provide an update shortly,” Tyler posted on Facebook.

An update shared on Sunday night mentioned that McDowell had suffered a “mini stroke.”
“They will conduct imaging on his heart tomorrow, but the news so far is positive!” Ronnie Dean McDowell Jr. stated in a Facebook update. “Thank you for all the prayers!! If we’ve not been able to reach everyone personally, please understand it has been quite overwhelming for us with the sheer number of calls, texts, and messages. We cherish each one of you, and your support means the world to us and our family!”

McDowell had performed around three or four songs at the festival when he started to “not make sense,” as described by his tour manager to WKRN, a Nashville-based outlet. The tour manager decided to stop the show to check on McDowell.
McDowell expressed that he didn’t feel well and suspected he may have had a stroke, according to his tour manager.

McDowell rose to prominence in the 1970s with the release of “The King Is Gone,” a tribute to Elvis Presley. Soon after, he produced another hit, “I Love You, I Love You, I Love You.”
In the years between 1979 and 1986, he released several popular albums and singles. During this period, he was particularly noted for tracks like “Older Women” and “You’re Gonna Ruin My Bad Reputation.”
Other notable songs by McDowell include “Watchin’ Girls Go By,” “Personally,” “You Made A Wanted Man Of Me,” “All Tied Up,” and “In A New York Minute.”
