A Bloc Québécois bill aimed at excluding Canada’s supply management system from future trade negotiations has quickly passed through Parliament.
The Senate approved the bill during its third reading on Tuesday evening, following the House of Commons’ support last week without any objections.
A prior version of this bill did not make it through when Parliament was suspended earlier this year.

Supply management refers to controlling the production of dairy, eggs, chicken, and turkey to stabilize prices.
U.S. farmers have long sought to gain a larger slice of the Canadian market, which could lead to increased supply and lower profits for Canadian farmers.
Canadian farmers, particularly those who depend on exports for their beef and grain, have voiced concerns that removing supply management could negatively impact their access to international markets in trade agreements.
