Low Learning Curve
This is the first time Iâve used an off-camera monitor and itâs great! The learning curve is very simple. Itâs light-weight and adds very little weight to the rig when shooting on the shoulder.Thinking of buying another one for my second movie camera.

Great External Monitor
My ZVE10 has no evf so it can make it difficult to take good pics thus changes the game. I love using for videos too

Solid little monitor for the price
Love the form factor, ease of use and price! I am a professional photographer using my Nikon Z9 to record VIP interviews and photo sessions here in Seattle. It’s VERY important my external monitor NOT MALFUNCTION at any point during my shoots – on several levels…most of which because it stresses me out and can set me back lots of time when the client doesn’t have to spare. The video quality is great – included hdmi cables, cases and shade panels are great. Where Im having problems, and where I’ll report back as soon as I hear from Viltrox…is that the power shuts off and the monitor reports ‘no signal’ every couple of minutes during the shoot. It turns itself back on and seemingly without any repercussions to the overall quality of the video – but it is VERY disconcerting when it happens. Im shooting in 4k 30fps with the latest firmware so everything should be fine. HDM cables and connections are secure, battery is full in camera and monitor… Camera output is set to ‘auto’ so theoretically, all should be working… only it isn’t. I’ve got a feeling it’s a bad monitor and may need replacing – which happens with tech sometimes. I’ll report back here and update the comment/review when I’ve figured it all out.UPDATE 4-15-24After (gently) using the Viltrox monitor only twice, it now malfunctions by periodically turning itself off and then back on. I have replaced the HDMI cords, tried different battery, tried using power cord, checked battery connection and none of it helped. I can’t be sure if the firmware is current as their web page is in Chinese and won’t translate using Chrome or Safari. I contacted the Viltrox store where I purchased it and they recommended I contact the viltrox store on Amazon – which uses the same e-mail address info@viltrox.com. It seems they are running me around in circles, the warranty has passed evidently and Amazon says they’ll give me a ‘one time’ refund for $130 – not the entire amount…. Not including the extra batteries and HDMI cable I purchased…what a hassle. I was considering getting a second unit but may just get a Ninja like I probably should have from the beginning… don’t believe the Youtube hype from all the hucksters who get their units for free. Lesson learned, again…Update #3 April 22, 2024. Viltrox e-mailed me today offering a full refund. If that goes through ok, I will probably try the same monitor again – especially since they are offering a 20% discount. I’ll update here after the return process is complete.Update #4 April 24, 2024. Im amending my original score of 2 stars to 4 stars based upon Viltrox really coming though with great customer service in the end. They have agreed to send me a new unit + refund $30 of the original purchase – very cool – thank you! I have some high profile VIP sessions planned for next week that will put the DC550 Pro to the test and will report back here one last time (hopefully) to let you all know how it goes. Thanks for tuning in lol… Thank you Viltrox :-)Final update (sorry for the epic review!)Viltrox sent a second unit and after I updated it with newer firmware – it seems to be working wonderfully. I’d recommend to purchasers of the device to get and install the firmware as soon as possible. Viltrox’s web page is a bit messy and does not seem to be translating to English very well, so you might be better off getting the firmware from a 3rd party site as I did. It’s a little inconvenient but solves all the issues I experienced with the monitor. Thank you for reading my LONG review!

Slim, great hood, bright enough for California.

Great
There’s some parts that are cheap plastic, but it’s strong where it matters. I use the Atomos Ninja, which is comparing apples to oranges since the Atomos records and this doesn’t. I’m sticking with the Atomos for the recording, but as a monitor this improves on so many things. It’s a tiny bit larger being about the same size but no obnoxious 2010 era bezels borders. The sunscreen isn’t a separate part but a plastic screen shade that snaps together at the press of a release button which is cool…but not sure if it will hold up as this is one of the cheaper parts. The screen is just right and has all the necessary features like histogram, peaking, luts, exposure and even vertical video guides. One of my favorite features is LUTS ARE PRE PROGRAMMED for various camera manufacturers. It has Panasonic and Fuji Luts for their LOGs…YAY – as it’s annoying loading them. It boots up quickly and no activation nonsense other brands impose on you.

5.5″ camera monitor, well-built and bright for outdoor shooting, many advanced features
VILTROX Camera Field Monitor DC-550pro 5.5″ Kit Touch Screen 4K HDMI DSLR Cameras Video Monitors with Sunshade Hood/np-f550 BatteryThe Viltrox DC-550 Pro monitor is a great solution to your woes if you have a camera without an adequate view finder. For example, my camera has LCD flipout screen but it’s too small AND I often can’t see it when outdoors. The camera doesn’t have a good old eyepiece viewfinder and no option for an external add-on. Thankfully, I do have an HDMI out port, so the option of an external field monitor is possible.I like the many features of the Viltrox DC-550:> bright 5.5″ screen in a well-designed frame> gyroscope function to detect screen orientation and auto-adjust> 1920 x 1080 resolution and color calibration> supports 4K format in/out> responsive touch screen with fairly intuitive interface> uses standard NP-F type batteries> SD card slot for loading custom LUTs> monitor has many advanced system settings for focus, framing, and exposure that are accessible from the screen, almost too many to name (3D LUT color space, full waveform view, color temp, focus peeking, vector scope, etc.)The DC-550 Pro is a kit that bundles:> 5.5″ monitor> 1 battery (NP-F550)> mounting adapter> 3 types of HDMI cable> sun shade> storage caseThis is a camera field monitor with so many advanced features that I’ll be able to grow into. It definitely meets my basic user need for a 5.5″ external monitor that is well-built and bright for outdoor shooting.

If you need a monitor to get started right away this is it
So this monitor comes with erthing you need to get started. But if you can Iâd say get a better battery and keep the one supplied as a back up. As it relates to everything else you have several YouTube videos you can watch to see all the details. But if youâre like me and just need a monitor to see better and use a couple of features then youâll be alright with this.
