Lovely handle grip
I’ll be honest, I got this wood handle grip purely because I know it makes any hand-held rig look professional and stylish. But this thing really does provide a ton of utility that I didn’t expect. It’s quite sturdy when installed into my cage, and I can swing my kitted out GH5 rig around by just this handle alone. If it ever starts to rattle, you can easily fix it with an allen wrench.

Great feel, easy to handle the rig one handed when not filming
Very nice handle to help ins stabilizing the rig (smallrig cage + gh5 + handle) by allowing a stable handling with 2 hands. The only small issue was the screws getting loose attaching the wood to the metal frame. Easily solved by using blue loctite.

A great addition to any DSLR rig
This is a great handle to compliment any camera cage, just make sure you have the right mounting solution before making the purchase. I haven’t tried the smallrig wooden handle so I’ve got nothing to compare it to but I can say that it has surpassed my expectations. Nothing looks or feels cheap about this handle.I’ve had no issues keeping it tight and sturdy using only my fingers to tighten/loosen it. Solid product.

Comfortable and functional handle for a camera cage
Very comfortable handle for my GH5 cage and it looks really nice as an added bonus. Great shape to fit the hand.

Not Quite There
I’ve been a professional cinematographer/videographer long enough to have owned and operated an Aaton, the greatest handheld film camera ever devised. One of the many innovations it’s designer brought to the industry was the iconic sculpted wooden handgrip that this Niceyrig grip attempts to emulate. The genius behind the original was that it not only provided a comfortable, stable anchor for the camera, it was also possible to securely rest or carry the camera in the crook of your elbow by hooking your thumb under that extended tab at the top of the grip. Additionally, you could support the weight of your rig by squeezing the grip with your fingers, or you could relax your hand and let the weight fall on the back of your hand via that tab, alternating during long shooting sessions to avoid fatigue. The way this particular copy of the grip is shaped, none of those techniques is possible. It’s too fat to grip comfortably with the fingers (with my size large hands) and the tab is too short to support the weight of the rig on it’s own. There are other versions of this style of handgrip that perform better at about the same price point, Small Rig makes a pretty nice one. The unit I received also had a pretty sloppy build with anodizing missing in places, etc. I returned it.

A mostly good handle
I liked this handle and was surprised at how solid it felt right out of the box. I paid budget prices but it felt like quality material. It threaded right onto my rosette mount. Things went downhill quickly as the thumb support on the handle is so small that the camera felt as if it could slip right out of my hand. I am 6’1″ and my hands are medium size, not meat hooks by any means. I struggled with this, since I am frugal with camera gear I tried seeing myself getting used to it and getting a steal after all… but this is my camera and if I’m spending thousands of dollars on a tool for my biz, it better perform solid every time. I sent it back, bummer. There are plenty of other choices but none so perfect in the value/price curve 🙂
