Great starter/ budget Lights
They are good, as a professional photographer and cinematographer, these are budget but really good budget. They are light and portable which is a huge advantage. Highly recommend if you can afford, otherwise spend more and do your research on B&H or Adorama. They are NOT sturdy without the sand bags provided, donât let them fall on you. Very versatile and as bright as anyone would expect.

Bright, functional, and a lot of fun features
These lights do a wonderful job of adding to the collection as they perform wonderfully. They aren’t the brightest lights out there, but at this price point, their brightness is comparable to just about everything else like it. Only these offer a little more in the means of features. For one, like any light, it doesn’t take rocket science to set any of it up outside of downloading the app and connecting the lights (if you haven’t done that before with any of their connected lights). Within a few moments, the lights are up and going. They have two dial controls on the back that allow for (1) adjusting brightness and (2) adjusting hue, saturation, and temperature. You then have a mode with up and down arrow to flip through the options with (mode also initiates the Wifi reset process). They each have two battery slots on the back for mobile use. They don’t come with any batteries but they do come with the AC cords for regular wall power (for each light). If you have the Sony batteries that they support (they should have their own version of the battery style as well as some of their other lights), they would make for great mobile lights thanks to their low weight. The app process is simple and it doesn’t take long to walk your way through getting them connected to it. A few moments with the instructions and you’re off and running with that as well. This is what makes this light so valuable for your shoot since you don’t have to run around to adjust them by hand. Not only can you control them from the app, but they can be set up in host/slave configuration so that you are only adjusting one light, and then any light you have after that can follow along with whatever that light does. Perfect for making quick changes to your setup. Not only that, but they have special themes, such as party modes, a paparazzi flash effect, and a lightning effect. These are pretty cool (we especially liked the paparazzi effect and will most likely make use of that in a project at some point, just because it is there). This makes them a great candidate for videos all the same. The presentation of the product, in general, is nice. It comes with a nice padded/soft carrying bag to store everything in. When you open it, everything looks well organized and protected in individual felt bags so they remain in good condition between setups (assuming you keep the bags and don’t just throw everything back into the case without them to save time). As I mentioned, they are light in weight, which makes them good for travel or moving them around. The quality of materials is just right, along with the tripods (although they are a bit stiff to open up for some reason). They feel like they will last a long time, which is important when you are looking for a return on your investment.**If you have found our review helpful, please vote it as helpful below so we know. GVM VS GVM (800D VS 680RS)
[COURTESY SPOILER: If youâre reading this because youâre trying to decide, *buy the 680RS*, which is superior and costs less. Not sure how that happened. I mean, theyâre both made by the same company, and sold on the same platforms (even on GVMâs website, the 680RS costs less). If you purchased the 800D, and canât return it, youâve got nothing to regret. Itâs perfectly functional, and youâll hardly notice the difference.]GVM VS GVM. You honestly can’t go wrong with either of these products for the price, but (assuming you’re seeing similar pricing as me) you might have noticed that GVM 680RS is actually cheaper than GVM 800D despite the 800D being a smaller and older item. Strange, but that’s how these things work out sometimes.I was so perplexed by this, I bought them both just to see what the actual difference was. Well, here’s the breakdown:GVM 800DBulbs 252 LED Beads (168 LED Beads and 84 RGB Beads)Size of actual LED panel 9inch x 8.5inches (approximate)GVM 680RSBulbs 560 LED Beads(220 RGB LEDs, 170 cool white LEDs, 170 warm white LEDs)Size of actual LED panel 11inch x 8.5inches (approximate)You can look up the lumens/lux. Those still seem to be ‘terms of art’. In the meantime, I have some real-world tests I did with both panels. As you can see from the pictures and Davinci Resolve charts above, GVM 680RS is a good 12-15% brighter. So from a technical standpoint, that makes the GVM 680RS a steal, but on the other hand, you might not notice a difference unless they were put side by side. They both function the same. They both have the strange carrying case that was clearly designed by a room filled with engineers who didnât bother to consult one single human being. The case requires you to take out half of the equipment before you can open the other side of the case, and take out the other half. Still better than the bad old days of rolling around a 200lb hard case. And at these prices, they could ship with loose canvas bags, and I still wouldnât hesitate to purchase. To put it in perspective, I spent $600 on my last set of 3 GVM LEDs (520S) that were not as powerful, and had no RGB, and that was an amazing price in 2018.Photoâs of brightness test was taken with my phone in manual mode:Pixel 6f/1.8shutter 1/250ISO-400

Joy in a box.
These are awesome. I’m now back into 3 point lighting. I had difficulty at first assembly wise.My only complaint is the CASE is too small.I hope they last. I’ll probably buy some batteries soon so that I can shoot in a field / national forest somewhere.

Great to light up a room with colour or evenly light a green screen. The light is pretty hard even with the defusion panel in place. DON’T LOOK INTO THE LIGHT…you’ll definitely be seeing spots for a while.Lights were smaller than expected but have come to love them as it’s super easy to tuck into corners or tight spaces while still producing crazy amounts of light.Cord length isn’t an issue for me, they are what they are and they do the thing.Paired with some NP-F970 batteries I can take these light weight beauties on the road with me. They require very minimal effort to break down and pop into a case.Just gotta find something to defuse these with.
