Stout pickup truck hoist
So this is a pretty awesome pick up truck hoist. Iâve just used this for about a week and itâs performed pretty good. For use in a pick up truck, to lift items into the bed, I feel like the weak point is probably the connection with the bed. When picking stuff up off the ground, I can see the bed of the truck flex, so I think Iâll need to install a thick and wide backing plate to prevent damaging the bed of the pick up. The hoist itself has worked well. The boom section is 3/16 inch thick metal which is the next weakest point, since the vertical column and bracket look to 5/16â thick. The swivel works good. There are 2 large bearings on the inside of the vertical post which allow the boom to swivel under load. I would have preferred the control leads to be longer so they reached from the battery to the opposite side of the boom when extended so you could push and swivel the load. The leads are only about 5ft. This will probably be solved with the remotes, but havenât used them yet. For my purposes, lifting various woodworking machines into the back of my truck, this is an excellent lift. The winch is a pretty small 3500lb winch, but used with a small snatch block it will easily exceed the capacity of the boom. Connections are pretty straightforward and assembly is just a few bolts, but again, mounting the base to something sturdy is most important. Overall Iâm happy with it.

Base needs enhancement for installation in a truck
I asked a friend who is a mechanic to help me install this into the back of my truck, but he said the base was not large enough to handle the strain of lifting 1000 lb loads. He gave me two options, enhance the base to twice the current size or mount it elsewhere, which I did. The problem is the mounting holes in the base are not separated enough to handle the leverage put onto the plate when lifting heavy loads. The process will rip the truck bed apart during the lift. So I mounted this inside my garage temporarily while I modify the base. The crane works well in all other respects.

Works OK but, POOR workmanship/no pride in their work.
This might be an old guy thing but, I still believe if you are going to make something, you should do a good job and, have pride in your work. And this crane fails on both points. I will admit that it is sturdy enough to do the job and so far, works without problems. But there are some cosmetic issues with this thing that just slap you in the face when you see them. 2 stars for actually doing what it is supposed to do. ZERO STARS for execution. It LOOKS awful! And the Litte Tykes yellow plastic that the control is made of sure don’t help matters. See the pcs for the RUSTY steel and ugly welds this thing is made of. Rusty, pitted steel, bolts that are not square to the tube, and a plain old NUT used as a pivot point. These are all things I would use to make a TEMPORARY TOOL that I would use once and then, THROW AWAY. SHAME on the people that made this thing. HAVE SOME PRIDE IN YOUR PRODUCTS!!! This crane looks like it was made of RECYCLED steel and junk they found at the scrapyard. Dang, I forgot to take a pic of the warning label that reads…… “Do not hang people”. HA! Sure thing pal. And you can bet I won’t be standing under the load either! And of the misaligned pin holes that support the arm. Again, it will do the job. But, it is the ugliest thing I have seen in a while that actually works. (so far) I will be using it as a great example of why we should be buying tools “Made in USA” every time we can afford to. Seriously folks, I really hate to rip on something I basically got for free but, this thing deserves every minute of it. And then some.
