Customers say
Customers find the lens sharp and suitable for portrait and landscape photography, with gorgeous coloring and good value for money. The functionality works well on Nikon 810, and one customer notes its excellent bokeh. The autofocus receives mixed feedback – while manual focus is fine, the auto focus can be hit or miss. Additionally, customers report that the lens is noisy.

I’m in love with this lens
I grew up taking pictures with single setting 35MM lenses. I had a 50mm, 28mm, 85mm, 105mm and a 135mm for my film cameras.I got a “kit” when I bought my Nikon D3400, now a D5500. The kit has a 28 to 70 and a 70 to 300 lens. I love the flexibility of these zooms, but I felt like I was missing something when I realized that they made prime lenses. We had a trip coming up, and I decided that I needed an 80 or 85MM. This lens is stunning. It is fast, with a f/1.8 aperture. This fast aperture means that the lens opens wider, lets more light in, and shortens the focusing distance. It is a wonderful lens for taking portraits of people when there are busy backgrounds because it blurs the background, exceptionally well.I’m sorry for the wall of text, but if you really want to learn photography, or if you know photography, and can’t afford those $300 to $1000 prime lenses, this is your answer. it’s an excellent lens, all of the factors are thought of, and the budget user is kept in mind. LOVE this lens.

A Great closeup lens
The 85mm close up lens has excellent range and depth. Capturing lovely photos and memorable moments of my family especially of my grandkids. Yes I would recommend this lens highly.

Great inexpensive lens for low light video in studio, wide aperture. TERRIBLE motor noise..
It is sharp for cheap glass. We used this for a video shoot in a low light studio, and needed the wider aperture. 85mm is a little too long for the room, but we made due. I will keep it in the bag as a great inexpensive travel “on the streets” lens, and I won’t lose my mind if it gets damaged or disappears. It is of course not the fit and finish of Nikkor ED glass, but it’s also 1/3 the price. My Nikon lenses don’t have to risk their lives hiking pyramids anymore. They can do the studio work. If you are going to use this for SLR video recording like I do from time to time, take note…you will have no option but to use remote mics and stand alone audio not associated with that camera. Shotgun mic for sync reference only, but you will hear the lens motors in the boom mic. IT IS LOUD…not a rumor! -DD

Love it, a little noisy, but still good
I use this lens a lot. Actually more than my 50 or 35mm. You do have to stand quite a ways back, but the images are great. Itâs a LITTLE noisy, but honestly I donât even notice it anymore.

Cheap 85mm F1.8 autofocus lens, needs a 67mm screw on UV filter for best results
Best performance at F4-F8, 3 elements of ED glass, does require a firmware update in the lens through the built in port on the metal USB mount flange, from the Meinke web site. Includes a plastic semi screw on lens hood. Switchable from AF to Manual on body of lens. The firmware update fixes the performance of the focusing, AF and Manual.

Just ok
I read reviews where it said it was a loud lens. That is correct, but nothing bad. My issue is that there is a really bad glare that comes in all my photos no matter the light or angle shot at.

Nice upgrade
Iâve had this for one day and itâs already a huge upgrade from my 18-55 mm kit lens. Quality of pictures both on preset modes and manual come out way better than before I had it. It is a bit noisy on auto focus but if youâre not using video then itâs no big deal. It came with a lens cap and hood which was a bonus, too.

I have used this for several weeks now and it produces very sharp pictures. I take pictures of flowers for greeting cards and this lens works great.

I bought this lens for a bit of cheap fun, and must say it was delivered really quickly, and the lens itself is in great condition. Even the auto-focus works well for such a cheap lens. But lens flare? I’ve been a professional photographer for over 50 years, and I’ve never seen a lens that comes close to this one for lens flare. The attached shot was taken indoors, at right-angles to a curtained window two meters away. Ergo, not a situation that lends itself to lens flare. Without the lens flare, I’d say this would be a super bargain, with the lens flare, it’s just a cheap bit of fun. Are they all like mine, or was I just one of the lucky buyers 🙁
