The leftist administration led by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake hosted its inaugural May Day rally, featuring notable attendees from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) as well as Communist factions from India.
During the large gathering in Colombo, CCP representative Peng Xiubin shared that his party has been collaborating closely with Dissanayake’s JVP, or People’s Liberation Front.
“We aim to enhance the relationship between China and Sri Lanka,” the Chinese representative commented.
JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva expressed his hope that partnerships with China would contribute to alleviating rural poverty.
“China has made significant strides in this domain, and we seek to learn from their experience,” Silva remarked.
AR Sindhu, a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), which is in power in Kerala, India’s southern state, mentioned they are inspired by the JVP’s swift ascent to power.
“We proudly tell our people that Kerala will emulate the Sri Lankan model. Not just Kerala, but the entire India plans to follow the Sri Lankan example,” Sindhu stated.
